About Our History
Established in 1764, Ebenezer Church has a rich legacy of faith, evolving from a home-based congregation to a prominent United Methodist Church over centuries of growth and change.

Ebenezer Church History
Ebenezer Church was established in 1764 by Burrell Wells as a worshipping congregation. Initially gathering in Wells’ home, the congregation later moved to a log church building. With the arrival of the Methodist movement in the United States, Ebenezer became a "circuit church," hosting periodic visits from Methodist pastors assigned to the area. Over 150 years later, in 1941, it transitioned to a station church. On March 3, 1873, the congregation relocated to its current site, a few miles from Belmont Abbey. A wooden structure served as their church until the construction of the present brick sanctuary and fellowship hall in 1957. In 1968, the church officially became Ebenezer United Methodist Church following the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren.
